Tamil Computer is
the first vernacular magazine on Computers and Technology. Tamil
Computer ushered in a new era for
technology coverage in the Tamil print
media. At a time when good articles or even basic information on computers was
hard to come by or confined to the more expensive English periodicals, we
blazed a new trail by launching Tamil Computer. The first issue of Tamil
Computer was released in November 1994 with the cover story of acclaimed
writer Sujatha, one of the few writer focused on writing about Technology in
Tamil at the time. Tamil Computer was able to deftly bridge the gap between
Technology and Tamil readers.

Readers
who were more comfortable with Tamil than English were happy to read about
Computing in their mother tongue as it offered them the opportunity to understand
computers lot better than they would have otherwise. Tamil Computer has
also served many Tamil medium students from schools to colleges across Tamil
Nadu. Hearing them describe Tamil Computer as their biggest opportunity to
bridge the gap with their English-medium peers is a source of great pride to us
and has driven us to make more news and articles on Computing and Technology
easily accessible.
The
simple motive behind Tamil Computer is to present the Tamil reader with
all the game-changing improvements in the world of Computing and Technology in
simple and lucid Tamil. Tamil Computer is one of the many initiatives
started by its publisher Mr. K. Jayakrishnan, who is a firm believer in using
media as a tool to educate and empower the Tamil speaking population. To this
end, a measure of Tamil Computer’s success and a constant source of
encouragement is the number of readers who – as the magazine’s readership grew –
turned into regular contributors and evolved into Tamil Technology writers. Further
encouragement was also provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu, which presented
the "Best Technology Magazine" award for the year 1999 to Tamil
Computer.
The simple motive behind Tamil Computer Magazine is to present the Tamil reader with all the game-changing improvements in the world of Computing and Technology in simple and lucid Tamil.
Tamil Computer reaches
thousands of subscribers across India and is also regularly subscribed to by
all major colleges, schools, libraries and computer coaching centers across
Tamil Nadu. Tamil Computer also reaches many of its readers through
newsstands and newspaper agents across South India every fortnight.
